For: always dressing like a lady
without looking outdated.
According to music legend Keith Richards, rock ’n’ roll is “music for the neck downwards.”
He may or may not have been drawing parallels between music and clothes, but no matter; we’re happy to do so for
him. From Elvis’s controversial gyrating hips to Madeleine Vionnet’s innovative use of the bias cut, rock and fashion
have long shared a common goal: to make a statement. So to create our third annual 100 Best-dressed Bostonians
list, we spent the last year collecting the names of the people whose personal style does just that. Whether they
shop at T.J.Maxx or Valentino, whether they prefer suits or skinny jeans, our listmakers have a knack — inherent
or learned — for making us regularly stop and take note of their ensembles. And like a perfect lyric or a soulful
bass line, their personal aesthetics are subliminally inspirational. And they stick with us. So the next time you’re
inexplicably drawn to a particular blazer, pair of heels, bit of jewelry, fedora, or ascot, it could be because you’re
rubbing shoulders with one of these folks. Because that’s the other shared trait of great music and true style: their
creativity is infectious. Here are this year’s listmakers, in alphabetical order. — BY FB STAFF
