BON VIVANT
YOUR PARTY HAS ARRIVED
Sure, it was about the clothes. But the 2009 Boston Fashion Week will be remembered almost as much for its off-the-runway scenes.
At the start of the week was fb’s annual Fashion Week Kickoff party, sponsored by W Hotel and Residences. Packed with a Who’s Who
of the city’s fashion community, the epic shindig was held in the rambling, unabashedly cool office space belonging to Connelly Partners
— a loftlike converted piano factory — which transformed five main rooms and a courtyard into distinct fashion-influenced worlds. In
W Hotels’ violet-splashed “Fashion & Hollywood” courtyard, models roamed about in vintage Halston against a backdrop of old movie
screenings; the W Residences collaborated with local designer Meichi Peng to create the “Fashion & Home” room — a gorgeous, otherworldly lounge. In the “Fashion & Photography” room, meanwhile, a live cover shoot showed off the best fall collections from Bloomingdale’s. The glammed-up crowd included everyone from Gretchen Monahan and Frances Rivera to Kay Hanley (of Letters To Cleo
fame — and this issue’s cover girl), who graciously lent her pipes to the live music performances in the “Fashion & Rock ’n’ Roll” room.
Meanwhile, local designers like Nirva Derbekyan, Sam Mendoza, Daniela Corte, and Michael DePaulo used the night not just to blow off
some steam with fellow fashion lovers, but also to gear up for their own big shows that followed later in the week.
